Opening Devotion:  Bill read an excerpt from “A Letter from Birmingham Jail from the book, I Have a Dream.

Correspondence:  A letter was received from the Sabeel Conference in thanks for our commission’s $200 donation. A Thanksgiving card was received from Hope City for VIM’s work.  Posters were received for the Democracy is NOT a Spectator Sport, the film series at Congregation Shomrei Torah.


Minutes:  The minutes were approved as written.

Wildfire Recovery Taskforce Update – Jennifer

The taskforce has not received a response from FEMA about placing trailers at the Stony Point campus. Homes for Sonoma which builds modular homes is looking for a site. There is a possibility of using three acres at the corner of Stony Point Road and Giffen Avenue.  This is a pilot program and would be temporary (about two years). 


Homeless Ministries Taskforce Update – John

The Safe Parking Program began at Stony Point on December 13.  So far there is one person.

On Sunday morning when he checks in, John meets with this man at 7:00 a.m. in the Giffen House.

The YMCA has offered temporary membership to all who are using the Stony Point Safe Parking Program.  Christ Church United Methodist hopes to begin their Safe Parking Program soon. 


Homeless and Displaced Renters – Marsha

Marsha was not present to give a report.   


Volunteer Opportunities in the Jail – John

Nine people have signed up for the one to one-and-a-half-hour tour on Tuesday, January 30.  At the tour, they will be looking at the present program and thinking about what can be done in the future. 


Social Action Goes to the Movies - Jennifer

Jennifer displayed posters advertising the movies.  The Women’s March movie will be January 27, 7:00 p.m. at Congregation Shomrei Torah.


Socks and Underwear Collection

There was a good response from the congregation and many items were donated. Diane was not present to report on delivery of the items. 



FISH Food Collection – Jennifer

Before the next meeting on January 23.   we will staple a F.I.S.H. needs list on each of the bags.  Jennifer, Andrea and Carmen will each purchase 50 bags.  Bags will be given to the congregation on January 28.



Update from Hope City fire recovery efforts

Diane was not present to give an update.  Blake reported that Linda Caldwell, Conference Superintendent for Mission Collaboration and Director of Disaster Preparedness and Response is working to write grants for wildfire recovery. 


Church Council meets Saturday, January 13, 9:00 a.m. in the McMullin Room.  Several members of the commission will attend.


Bulletin Board:

The Human Relations Special Offering on January 14 is posted.  After January 14, Jennifer will prepare the F.I.S.H. Food Collection board. 


Roseleaf Articles for February:

F.I.S.H. offering on February 4:  Marsha has submitted.  Social Offering Goes to the Movies beginning January 27, and February 24 and March 17 article has been submitted by Bill and will be repeated.  Wildfire Recovery Special Offering will be submitted.


Blake closed the meeting with prayer.


The next meeting will be Tuesday, January 23, 4:00 p.m. in the Carriage House.


The meeting was closed at 4:48 p.m.
